Oscar-winning filmmaker signs on for follow-up to box-office success 'Skyfall'

Sam Mendes again has a license to thrill.
The Skyfall director is returning to the world of James Bond for the 24th movie featuring the British secret agent, according to Sony Pictures Entertainment. The as-yet-untitled new film, in theaters Nov. 6, 2015, will feature Daniel Craig as Bond for the fourth time and a screenplay written bySkyfall scribe John Logan.
Mendes said in a statement that Bond producers let him honor his theater commitments before tackling another movie. Earlier this year, he had told Britain'sEmpire magazine in March that he wasn't doing to direct the next 007 adventure because of the focus needed for stage productions of King Lear andCharlie and the Chocolate Factory, though talks started up between the filmmaker and producers a couple months later.
"I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time," Mendes said.
It's not hard to tell why they wanted the Oscar-winning director back so bad — Skyfallracked up a worldwide box office of $1.1 billion, was the highest-grossing film ever in the UK and ranks No. 8 globally on the all-time list.
